Breathing in, I am the sturdy oaks.
Breathing out, my roots are grounding my soul.
In, sturdy oaks; out, grounding my soul.
Breathing in, I am the playful prairie grasses.
Breathing out, my laughter is floating on the breeze.
In, playful prairie grasses; out, laughter floating.
Breathing in, I am the precious pond.
Breathing out, my being is nourishing those around me.
In, precious pond; out, nourishing those around me.
Breathing in, I am the beautiful, bumbling, buzzing bees.
Breathing out, I am flourishing in community.
In, beautiful bees; out, flourishing community.
Breathing in, I am the ambling paths.
Breathing out, I am trusting in the journey.
In, ambling paths; out, trusting the journey.
Breathing in, I am the crackling fire.
Breathing out, my passion is burning brightly.
In, crackling fire; out, passion burning.
Breathing in, I am the stars above.
Breathing out, my true light is shimmering.
In, stars above; out, true light shimmering.
As you find a comfortable position, gently close your eyes or bring them to an unfocused gaze. Allow your body to fully release into the floor or chair beneath you. Your arms might rest at your sides or gently upon your abdomen. Your legs might turn slightly outward. Begin to take refuge in your breath. In, and out. In, out.
Breathing in, become aware of the full weight of your body resting upon the earth. Breathing out, allow yourself to be cradled by the earth. Just as we are born of the whole cosmos, we can also take rest in the whole cosmos. In gratitude, allow your body to rest fully upon the earth.
Breathing in, bring your attention to your face. Breathing out, offer gratitude to your wondrous face, full of expressions and sense experiences. Your eyes allow you to witness Earth’s changing seasons; release any tension from your precious eyes and along your eyebrows. Your mouth allows you to taste the fruits of the earth; release any tension from your precious mouth and along your jaw. Your ears and your nose allow you to hear sweet birdsong and smell blooming flowers; release any tension from your precious ears and precious nose.
Breathing in, bring your attention down into your neck, shoulders, and arms. They often carry so much. For this we are grateful. Breathing out, allow any tension to release from your neck, shoulders, and arms. In this moment, allow the earth to do the carrying. Allow yourself to be held.
Breathing in, bring your attention to your hands. Breathing out, smile to these playful hands and fingers. They might be yearning for the silky touch of a rose petal, for the textured history of a tree trunk, or for the crumbling wonders of fertile soil. These beautiful hands offer care to the earth; take this time to now offer care to your hands in return.
Breathing in, bring your attention to your torso, with the upper portion holding your ribcage and lungs and the lower abdomen containing your precious organs. Breathing out, send gratitude and nourishment throughout your torso. These lungs inhale the refreshing air around us. These organs digest the gifts of the earth. Together they receive nutrients to bring health and strength to our whole bodies. Release any tension in your torso and offer your gratitude to all these precious organs.
Breathing in, bring your attention down to your hips and legs, moving your awareness through your thighs, knees, and calves. Breathing out, release any tension you find in your hips and legs. Each day they carry you across the earth; allow them to now rest fully upon the earth. Smile to these miraculous hips and legs of yours.
Breathing in, bring your attention to your precious feet. Breathing out, offer love to your feet. They kiss the earth with each mindful step. Allow any tension in your feet and in your toes to release. Fill them with your love and care.
Breathing in, bring your attention back to your whole body. Breathing out, smile to your whole body. Notice if there are any areas asking for extra care. Maybe there’s tension, pain, or sickness being held. Send your love to these areas. Notice how they are part of the whole, being healed by the rest of the body. The giving and receiving are always interchanging. Allow your whole body to rest in its togetherness. Continue to follow your breath as it nourishes your body, in and out. In, out.
Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know I am breathing out.
Breathing in, I feel my shoulders lighten and spread with the wings of love.
Breathing out, I greet my true self with a smile.
Recognizing my habit of externally projecting my needs, I offer myself uninhibited space.
Noticing shoulder tension arising, I take refuge in my wings of love.
Remembering the truth of impermanence, I smile at my habit energies.
Honoring the gift of life, I offer gratitude.
May I be deeply present,
Honoring the past and cherishing the future;
And when the ghosts of aversion, attachment, and craving arise,
May I let them go.
Repeat with May You, May We, May All...
